ICEA- (U) derives its heritage from ICEA –Kenya of which it is a subsidiary. ICEA-Kenya was established in 1964 at the height of Independence victory for the three East African nations. ICEA- Kenya is a result of a historical merger of three giant Insurance providers who operated in the region at the time. These included;
· Eagle Star Insurance Company (UK)
· Welfare Insurance Company (UK)
· New Zealand Insurance.
ICEA (U) was iincorporated on 5 August 1999 and licensed to provide both short term (General) and long-term (life & Pensions) insurance business. Operations commenced on 5th August 2000.
Since then, ICEA has registered steady growth amidst a fierce competitive market environment of 23 players. As ICEA-(U) celebrates 12 years of service, the company is ranked 5th as a composite insurer in terms of premiums.
The company has 24 Bn Uganda shillings worth of assets, which is an equivalent of over USD 10 million.
